The lawsuit was filed by Julie M., a woman from Massachusetts who was implanted with the Option™ ELITE Retrievable Inferior Vena Cava Filter (“IVC Filter”) manufactured by Argon Medical Devices Inc. and Rex Medical, L.P.
The IVC Filter was implanted in her vein to catch blood clots and prevent a pulmonary embolism.
The IVC Filter was implanted on October 15, 2015 at Umass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts by Dr. Jessica P. Simons, Dr. Dejah Judelson, and Dr. John Madore.
The plaintiff underwent an attempted retrieval surgery on March 10, 2016 at Umass Memorial Medical Center by Dr. Simons and Dr. Edward Arous. Unfortunately, the IVC Filter was not removed.
The plaintiff is seeking compensation for injuries related to her IVC Filter being embedded in her inferior vena cava and tilted.
Rex Medical and Argon Medical Devices are accused of negligence, failure to warn about severe side effects, manufacturing and selling a defective medical device, misrepresentation of safety risks, and more.
The lawsuit was filed on February 1, 2018 in the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania — Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas (Trial Division / Civil Section) — Case ID: 180105586 — In RE: Option™ Vena Cava Litigation (May Term 2017 No: 01600).
There are now over 7,000 additional IVC filter lawsuits now pending against Rex Medical, Cook Medical, C.R. Bard, and other manufacturers in state and federal courtrooms nationwide.
